Astrocytoma is the most common type of glioma tumor that forms in the brain, typically in men over the age of 45.

Astrocytoma begins in star-shaped cells called astrocytes that support nerve cells. An astrocytoma tumor is typically a slow growing tumor that can remain unchanged for long periods of time, although growth must be monitored closely once identified.

There are several different types of astrocytoma, each being graded on a scale of 1 to 4 based on how abnormal the cells look and how fast they grow. This prognosis will determine your treatment options and will be related to the severity of your symptoms.
